About the organization:
We have the great pleasure to introduce ourselves as a non-profit organization on a mission to bring basic education to every child across rural India. Ekal Abhiyan is eliminating illiteracy and providing elementary education in rural and tribal villages all over India. Ekal started working on Basic primary education in remote villages to enable them to understand the importance of Education in life and have access to further higher education. Students who cannot move further for some reasons, Basic Education in Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, and Awareness on Hygiene, Cleanliness, Fundamental Rights of an Indian citizen, local sports, facilities they are entitled to in rural areas, subsidies available from government schemes, RTI, moral values, etc. would equip them suitably to lead a better life. For this, we select a young Matriculate i.e. 10th Pass Boy or a Girl from the same village with the consent of the Village Panchayat and appoint them as a teacher. Teachers start a three-hour non-formal school, daily, in an open or a place organized by the Village Panchayat as per timing convenient to villagers. Children in the age group of 6 to14 yrs. are persuaded to join. Children get an education at Ekal Vidyalayas for four to five years and become capable to join formal schools in 3rd to 5th class and our local Samities persuade and at times facilitate students for formal higher education. There are approx 25-30 students in one Ekal Vidyalaya. Teachers are being trained regularly in six to eight training camps in a year to update with changing trends. The aim is to make villages educated with old Vedic Samskaras and self-reliant.
We would encourage you to have Van Yatra familiarize yourself with our Vidayalays, how we initially started with the belief that Education is the key to the solution to problems of rural and tribal India. Over the time, we diversified our intervention towards the holistic development of villages, by inducting educational programs such as:- Health and Hygiene up-keep by preventive measures and using local resources. Organic Farming with eco-friendly resources suitable for soil, manure, and seeds at negligible input cost to enhance soil output, Skill Development programs keeping in view Women Empowerment and Digital/ Computer education by mobile vans with Solar panels mounted on top.
We are registered under the Society Registration Act and approved under sections 80G and 12A of the Income Tax Act, FCRA, etc. We are accredited with the status of “Credible NGO” by IICA under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, with a unique code assigned “Implementing Agency Hub A000152” and fulfill all statutory requirements of CSR and shall provide all documentation.

- Ekal Abhiyan started in 1989 with a handful of Vidyalayas having crossed a mark of 1, 00,000 Vidyalayas in November 2019. Now the number has grown to 1, 02,552.
- We work on seeing it as a believing method. We invite each donor to visit our schools so that they can understand how we work on the ground level.
- Ekal Abhiyan Trust has won the International Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2017 for its contribution to providing education to rural and tribal children in remote areas, rural empowerment, gender, and social equality.
- President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind along with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi presented the Gandhi Peace Prize on February 26, 2019.
